10 Seasonal Ideas for #TrashToTreasure from Milk Jugs

Got milk? (or store-bought water?) Then you probably have milk (or water) jugs almost empty. Instead of popping them into the recycling bin (or...evil horrors: the trash can!) when empty, why not upcycle those trash jugs into upcycled treasure?

There are great projects you, and even kids! can do to upcycle milk and/or water jugs of all sizes into useful, free:

  • organizing
  • décor
  • garden
  • kid
 #TrashToTreasure/s.

This is the first in a series, and SomeGurrrl will also show you her results later in the series too.

WINTER:

1) Cut in half, milk jugs can be used to as mini greenhouses...as explained by GardeningKnowHow.com.

2) Indoors or Outdoors,  you could make an igloo, possibly to serve as a play structure or a basically-free greenhouse (just the cost of the hot glue)...as explained on Hubpages.com

3) This one is simple, but so ecological: cut off the top of the jug, leaving the handle attached, & use this container to catch your sink water, from washing your dishes or hands, to use as gray water to flush the toilet...here's the logic: instead of wasting virgin clean water, flushing with your oh-so-slightly used 'gray' (from the soap, as opposed to clear, from the tap) cuts down how much 'virgin'/clear tap water you use.

SPRING:
4) Once you have your plants started, (like in 1) some of them can be moved into cuter planters, that can even mark spring and spring holidays...as shown by American Milk Companies' GotMilk? (MilkLife.com) campaign.

5) Use an empty jug to make bird feeders, and the kids can help, as explained by GreatSTEMs.com
